The Witcher keeps selling lots of copies

Last October, CD Projekt announced that their fantasy RPG game The Witcher had sold over 1 million copies worldwide (combining sales of the original version and last year's Enhanced Edition). This week the game's official web site has posted up word that sales continue to be strong for the game.

id CEO: Rage due out in 2009

Officially id Software's stance on the release date for their games is "when it's done". However it looks like id CEO Todd Hollenshead is confident enough to give a guess about the release of their next major internal game project Rage.

ESRB urges Utah parents to fight proposed game bill

Earlier this week we reported that the House of Representatives in the Utah State Legislature had voted overwhelmingly to pass a bill that would allow game retailers to be sued by parents. The idea is that retailers who promote the fact they have game ratings enforcement systems for selling games to minors could be sued if they are found to violate their own policies. Now one section of the game industry is fighting against the proposed law. The Entertainment Software Rating Board has issued an open letter to Utah's parents urging them to fight the bill's passage. Our sister site Joystiq reports that ESRB president Patricia Vance states the bill, if signed into law, " . . . would effectively penalize responsible retailers that have policies, and provide safe harbor for retailers that refuse to adopt a responsible policy in the first place. That is downright senseless."

Big Iron: The Dell-icious Apple of my iPod?

Okay, no, not quite, but no collection of hideous headline puns that juicy escapes us. The news from Nvidia's neck of the woods is that the Green Eyeball Gang has gotten a bit cozier with both Dell and Apple this week. For gamers, this certainly doesn't suck on either front, especially since there's a rather tasty bit in the Dell-centric press release that says, "the Dell Studio XPS 13 eliminates the typical notebook compromise between performance and battery life by offering two GeForce GPUs to give users the option of running one GPU for longer battery life, or combining both for greater performance." SLI? On MY laptop? To quote the great Federation philosopher J.L. Picard, "Make it so." (h/t to one of my WoW guildies, from whom that line was shamelessly appropriated). Admittedly, the benchmark figures cited (Futuremark and, the not-precisely-cutting-edge 3Dmark06) are a little bit cherry-picked (they're anything but apples-to-apples). Light snark aside, there's certainly no shortage of interest in having a potent but portable rig, especially if your budget dictates that you're going to have to choose either a desktop, or a desktop replacement.
